How long does it take to get a DOT Number?

The FMCSA issues the DOT Number as soon as it is filed. However, the online SAFER database that publicly stores your authority information will not be updated to reflect your DOT Number for 24 hours. If you attempt to shop for insurance or provide the DOT Number to any third party, they will not be able to validate your new number until the database has been updated. However, once it reflects on the SAFER database, it is active immediately for intrastate operations as long as you have met the other requirements for intrastate operations.
